Eligibility Information
Who Can Attend the Spencer Center for Gifted and Exceptional Students?
Students currently attending Cincinnati Public Schools, as well as in-district students in private, charter or home schools, are eligible to apply to the Spencer Center if the following eligibility requirements are met:
Gifted Entrance Criteria for the Spencer Center:
A student must earn a superior cognitive score (i.e. NNAT3, CoGAT),on a state-approved assessment at a specific level, which varies by grade level. Scores for Grades 3-6 must be earned in Grades 2-5. Scores for Grades 7-11 must be earned in Grade 6 or higher.
- OR -
A student must earn a minimum superior cognitive score, on a state-approved assessment, in
addition to one area of giftedness (NPR 95%) in Reading or Math. Scores for Grades 3-6 must be earned in Grades 2-5. Scores for Grades 7-11 must be earned in Grade 6 or higher.
Exceptional Entrance Criteria for the Spencer Center:
A student must earn a minimum superior cognitive score, at a specific level (which varies by grade level) on a state-approved assessment.
- OR -
A student must earn a national percentile rank (NPR) of 80% in Reading, on the iReady
Reading Assessment.
- OR -
A student must earn a national percentile rank (NPR) of 80% in Math, on the iReady Math assessment with no less than a national percentile rank (NPR) of 60% or higher in Reading, on the iReady Reading assessment.
Scores for Grades 3-6 must be earned in Grades 2-5. Scores for Grades 7-11 must be earned in Grade 6 or higher.
