When classes start back up in the fall, students at nine CPS high schools will be getting a little more sleep. The following schools will have a later arrival and dismissal time: Aiken High School, Clark Montessori High School, Gamble Montessori High School, Hughes High School, Riverview East Academy, Taft High School, Shroder High School, Spencer Center and Woodward Career Technical High School.
As you may recall, the CPS school board passed a resolution in 2019 to phase-in later start times at the high school level. This is the last group of schools to make the transition. The other CPS high schools have already made the switch. Research shows that a later school start time improves students’ health and directly relates to learning capacity, retention and academic performance.
For the 2021-2022 school year, the following high schools will implement healthy start times as follows:
